The tallest and most famous mountain in Nepal is at the top of every mountaineers list of things to do in their life time. Mountaineering and trekking in Nepal has relied heavily on this peak. Its named after Sir George Everest a geographical surveyor and General of India. The Nepalese call it Sagarmatha and the Sherpa’s call it Chomolungma. Sagarmatha literally means 'head of the sky' the name was invented in 1956 by Babu Ram Acharya, a Nepal historian.
